Politics in China

The Political System of China The People's Republic of China is a socialist one party system with the Communist party of China (KPCh) as a party being there. That is, the KPCh completely determines the politics of China. The politics in China is divided into two fields: On the one hand there are the official politics, on the other hand the politics within the communist party. Therefore a sense of the political system of the country requires a consideration of both the structure of the state and the party. The most important organs of the Communist Party of China are the Politburo, that from 19 to 25 members (currently 22) members exists, and the Zentralkommittee with his 150 to 200 full members. However, the most important decisions are not made in these committees. Here informal conversations are much more important between the leading politicians. These live particularly in the government quarter in Beijing and meet there. The National Nation Congress, the state council and the President of the State are the most important institutions of the official Chinese state politics. The National nation congress, the parliament of the world biggest with approx. 3000 representatives, meets due to his size only once per year. All provinces, autonomous fields, government-immediate cities, special administration fields and the army are of representatives with a term of office of five years represent - also the actually independent Taiwan. All power takes the congress as a basis formally in the state. He forms since he meets so rarely, controlled a Continuous committee from 150 representatives that in fact acts as a parliament, said goodbye laws, the compliance of the constitution, and so forth. The congress elects also the so-called state council who carries out the power of the state. His chairperson is the Prime Minister. Further the National Nation Congress elects also the President of the State who holds the highest civilian office of the country. His signature makes laws of the congress first valid. The present president is called Hu Jintao. Due to the face-moderate one and in particular the population size of the country the administration is a real challenge. Therefore the country is divided into administrative units on different levels: it consists of 23 provinces (near which Taiwan is included also here), 333 districts, 2.860 circles, 41.040 municipalities and approx. a million villages and/or Nachbarschaftskommittees.

The current Chinese politics of China aims at the opening of the country to the world there and the reform of the autocratic communist structures. In particular on the field of the economic policy many changes were carried out in the last decades. At that the politics of China opens the country for foreign investors and the economy changes a capitalist market economy from a centrally governed communist one. On the field of the foreign policy is the one China politics furthermore central: that means that the People's Republic maintains only relationships with those states which do not acknowledge the independence of Taiwan (confessed also as a republic of China). The foreign policy has been changed since the end of the Cold War in the sense that the ideology does not play hardly a role anymore on foreign policy field. Rather the country approximates to the capitalist west more and more. Inside-Politically changed in the last years most the least: the human rights situation which also again and again other countries complain about keeps on being problematic, the press is controlled still by the state. There were small improvements at that in the last years, however.
